Rotate on Y won't Store Config?

image

I can’t figure out how to keep “Rotate on Y” setting on for my viewport.

Every time I reload Zbrush I have to click it on.

Am I missing something?

Hi @wrender8 ,

While there are exceptions, generally the only settings that can be stored with config are located in the Preferences menu. Items in other menus are either stored with the file, the individual brush file, or not at all.

The Rot Y setting cannot be stored for startup. Most people would find this difficult to work with for most situations and think something was wrong with the program if it ever defaulted to this. As a tradeoff, the setting is located right on the edge of the default viewport and can be easily toggled as desired.

Thank you for the response!

I want to take a moment to respectfully and professionally respond in kind.

It sounds like there are 2 paths to storing preferences in Zbrush.

  1. in the Config.

  2. in the Project File.

Given that a user can open Zbrush and set “Y Rotation” while using the application…makes it inherently a “Preference”.

Obviously given your concern for other users being confused it should NOT be stored in the the “Project File”. Which to be honest would be weird since most programs store their preferences locally on their workstation in the user account or on the network so they can access their preferences from any workstation.

Logically it should be stored in the config file with all the other “Preferences”.

The fact it isn’t considered a “Preference” that is stored in the config is an issue.
Since it IS inherently a “Preference”.

From an application standpoint this could be considered a deficiency.

Perhaps the developers are not aware of this.

Even if they are aware of it usually it doesn’t matter unless enough customers file official RFE tickets to set it as a high enough priority to be addressed so they can be authorized to spend time doing so. Given most artist’s aren’t aware of this, don’t have the authority too do so or are too busy they do not file said RFE ticket 90% of the time.

Lucky for me I am aware and can do so. I’ll prepare a formal RFE ticket and hope one day my “Preference” will be respected. Until then its a shame it isn’t and will continue clicking it on every day at work.

Here are some examples of Professional software used in the VFX industry that offers a wide range of wacky navigation preferences and stores them successfully.

ps. I sincerely hope this does not come off the wrong way and I want to say I appreciate the opportunity to have this discourse for future growth both for myself, Zbrush and it’s community that I hope to participate in.
