Right click menu on a Mac missing?

I have been told that on a PC you can right click, and get same floating menu as you get when you hit the space bar. My Mac does not do this in ZBrush2. I may have unknowingly turned it off. How do I re-enable this feature?

I asked this question awhile back, and didn’t get a response either.

I assumed it was just my settings, but now that I know other people are experiencing it too, I am curious to know a solution as well.

The right click menu is a time saver, to say the least. Hopefully there is a way to get it to work.

I have noticed this recently while working on a PC. Great short cut. I tried it at home on my mac but got the same as you guys, nothing. I first thought that I had to change the mapping of my tablet but haven’t figured out yet if this is actualy the case. At least I haven’t managed to get it to work.

Anyone with a solution?

Well I was thinking it was a command vs, control thing. (the one PC vs. Mac keyboard function variation) Ok, The one button mouse equivalent to right click on a Mac is control click. (Usually would be command on a Mac) Usually all the useful keyboard functions - “hot keys” in photoshop, (and many other apps) are command “click”, or “key” on a Mac, vs. control “click”, or “key” on a PC, but being that this one function (right click) is already mapped to control, and ZBrush is using the same keyboard mapping that PC uses on the Mac. I was thinking he couldn’t figure out why it didn’t work when he ported it, and left it out because the floating window was already mapped to the spacebar anyway.
I really don’t know why they differ, but for some reason everybody maps those keys differently on the Mac with that one variant.
Now that is just a guess, but I would still rather use the right click over spacebar all the time.

On my Wacom tablet mouse I have now mapped the Spacekey to the right button. That works fine. I guess almost all mice with multiple buttons will allow mapping of keys. At least the Kensington mouse I owned some years back allowed that.
I actually never came across that spacekey function :o. I only used the key to pan the drawing area. Thanks for pointing it out. :+1:

Not all Macs have a right mouse button. So for the sake of consistency on the Mac, the right button is not available.

Well then what could it hurt to add it for those of us who do have one? Those who don’t will never know the difference.

Please!

Yes please! I should think most Mac people using 3d apps would have a multi button mouse anyway! - Baz

I’m sorry but that’s pretty silly considering the tablet is the “preferred” way to use Zbrush anyway. Tablets usually have three or more buttons. I’ll have to see about mapping the spacebar to the right click button on the stylus though, I wasn’t aware of that.

Maybe adding a more robust key assignment system in Zbrush will help circumvent these types of issues. One button is OK for spreadsheets and document files, but not recommended for any sort of creative work.

Very true indeed.

Maybe it is option click? That is normally the right click but it might not be on the Mac at all for those that like the one button mice. Still can’t stand/figure out what good more than one is

No that’s not the case as you can plainly see here.

I have to say I was quite confused and thought my Wacom Mouse had stopped functioning. I agree with the other posters regarding some info on this important key switch. Just because Apple is backwards when it comes to making a mouse (obvious form over function mistake), doesn’t mean that the majority of designers, and nearly all 3D modelers ditch that useless piece of hardware and immediately get a 3 button mouse, it is a must have as tools are mapped to it for 3D.

I am going off the Practical Guide and jumped down to the Quick Starters Guide, within the first 3 pages I was lost because of this key switch. In order to find the info I had to go online (nice to have this forum, but we shouldn’t be dependant on it for things like this imho), that is not helpful for people working on a station that is not connected to the net.

I am sure I will be using this forum quite a bit (brand new user), thanks for the info!

Happy Holiday’s!
