retopology projection explodes the adaptive skin

hello to all, firs i want to thanks the community for the excelent material and tutorials found here

the problem is this:

i have a high poly model, so to optimize the polycount i made a retopology to it, then when i try to project all the details on the adaptive skin preview, the mesh explodes, does anybody know why?

What is the scale of your original model when you view it in the Tool>Preview window? I suspect that it is not a very good fit within – and is probably very small in that window.

Everything that ZBrush does is based off a value of “one ZBrush unit”, which is equal in size to the preview window. So an object which fits perfectly within that window will be exactly one unit in size. That in turn means that features which are scale-dependent (such as projection distances) will work as expected.

If the model is extremely small in the preview, then the default values in the Tool>Projection window will be extremely exaggerated. Which is what appears to be happening to you.

You could try adjusting those sliders to see if you get better results. But the easiest solution is probably to select the original mesh and press Tool>Deformation>Unify before you begin the retopology process.

thanks aurick for the answer, i’ve been playing with the projection sliders with no good results, then i checked the preview image and the placement of the model was half out of the window ( image attached).

do you think that the placement of the z- sphere for retopology ( image attached) affects the projection quality?

so i guess that i have to make another topology, cuz this one dont works.

thank you very much!

ok so i decided to do the topology thing again, so far so well, i made my character’s ears and projected just fine, then when i started to work with the eyes zone of the model, the left one just exploded again.:frowning:

am i doing something wrong? why the ears and the right eye went good?

thanks!

RE TOPOLOGY OTRA VEZ EXPLOTANDO.JPG

any answer???

I’ve been having the same problems on the mesh I’m currently doing. I think you might have to set the projection tab negative instead of positive or your strength might be set too high.

the reason 1 side worked and the other didn’t is because your mesh isn’t symmetrical. so it is calculating the projection differently for each eye.

and what you’re doing is fine. If only the one eye is what is exploding, then finish the mesh, and try a “project all” (subtool panel) instead of an adaptive skin projection.

If both projection types still mess up and explode you’re just going to have to clean up and resculpt that area of the projection.

RiVvenGuard : i had my projection strength at 1 then i used -1, and then -0.5 and its not working, the only way of not being exploded is to set the strength to 0 but it dont project nothing i guess is a symetrical problem likegoast666 says . but really thanks for you answer everithing helps.

goast666: jmm you’re right the model isn’t symetrical im going to try that i hope it works. thanks for your help

yeh play around with the sliders…i think i set the “Project range” to -.10 and it worked…mine exploded at just .10 under the project tab on the right…so i changed it to -.10 and fixed it.
