retopologize model

Question for you out there if you could help me please.

Can I retoplogize the shark after i have polly painted it or did I have to do this first. My idea was to finish the model and paint it then use UV master to create the UV texture map then retopolgize then add the uv map to the new retop model. Can i do this? I want to be able to have a lower polly model of this shark. Also if i use decimination master on my model can i then pose it using transpose master?

Thanks for you help greatly

I’m no expert, but I think as long as your poly paint is poly paint (rather than a texture applied to a UV), if you retopologise and create a UV for the new retopped model, you just create a texture from the poly paint.

I wouldn’t recommend trying to pose something that has been decimated personally.

You shouldn’t have to give the original sculpt UVs for polypaint, so you can skip that step. Just give the final retopologized version them and you’ll be good to go.

You could, but there’s a very good chance it wont look pretty at all. The topology DM creates is geared more towards preserving the current form and detail, so I too would share Gordon’s recommendation.
