Result of boolean difference always symmetric

I really learned a lot of ZBrush the last past week, but now I am stuck and need your help…

I am trying to create a boolean difference of these two tools,

but the result is always symmetric, as you can see here:

Symmetry is disabled in the transform-menu and the local symmetry button is off.

These are my settings in the tool menu:

What am I doing wrong?

Make sure that XYZ are all turned off on the ‘ReMesh All’ button before you ReMesh.

I think you would get much better results using DynaMesh though. Try the following instead.

  1. Set up the first and second subtool as you already have.

  2. Select the top subtool then go to Geometry subpalette and, in DynaMesh, turn off Project, turn on Polish then enable DynaMesh button.

  3. Select the second subtool (cylinder you will be subtracting) and enable the second boolean icon (Difference icon as you have on your default2 subtool)

  4. Select the top subtool again, then go to ‘Tool > Subtool > Merge’ and click ‘MergeDown’.

  5. Ctrl+LMB+drag once on the canvas to remesh.

You can set the DynaMesh Resolution to what you want but, try the default 128 first and see if that is sufficient.

facepalm…

I really did not notice these letters!

And thank you very much for the “dynamesh merge down CTRL+DRAG” tip!

Still working on the inside, but the UI has many more buttons to play with (-;

Thanks for the tip. Been looking for this for ages.
