Restricted functionality !?

I have Zbrush a few weeks and I was being self taught partly but decided to get a basic bundle of tutorials from Domestika at a very reasonable price.

I have partial designs or works in progress and I’ve discovered that they won’t save as either ‘Documents’ nor ‘Tool’s’ for continued development.

When I opened my documents or tools they would immediately start duplicating. I found a resolve in a youtube tip to do Ctrl +n and this worked initially but then my attempts to develop the work were prevented when pressing ctrl +n deleted both the duplicates and the original design in development so I was left with blank screen with the program still opened and nothing in the workspace.

Also, I couldn’t develop my concepts beyond a certain point. I’d have a robot design specifically and I wasn’t permitted add the hands which I had created in some basic detail in a separate project. Maybe this is because of the whole concept potentiality being undesirable.

I would like to learn and develop with every evermore detailed version of my designs that I create.

How does one join two projects together? (i.e. Combine Tool’s or Documents.)

Anyone got any keyboard shortcuts to overcome glitches?

Can’t comment on the specific issues you’ve raised but it seems like you’re having trouble with the basics of modeling in 3D versus 2D (hence the duplicating and Ctrl-N issues). I’d suggest looking at the following free resources for learning the basics. Michael Pavlovich is an excellent teacher.

If you’re new to Zbrush then check out Michael Pavlovich’s Intro to Zbrush. An easy to search playlist covering all the basics.

Also Maxon (Pixologic) ZClassroom covers all the features but also has project based examples so you can see how it’s used to create various sculpts.

If you’re new to ZBrush, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to read the "Basic Concepts" section of the documentation. A few minutes spent here may eliminate the need for a lot of longer videos covering the basics.

In particular this section explains ZBrush’s hybrid 2d/3d nature as well as the different types of file formats and which information they save.
