Requesting extremely experienced ZBrush Modeler / Skinner

Hello,

My name is Robert Bonner and I am a Graphic Designer, Web Developer & Video Game Producer. Over the last eight months I have designed a video game from the ground up being an utterly revolutionary Real-Time Strategy that will reinvent what it is to play a video game, although ambitious I know exactly what I’m talking about. There’s one problem: I don’t have a publisher or development team. I have several close friends that have been in the industry doing mod’s for various engines, some of which being Valve’s Half-Life 2 Source Engine, developers from Black Mesa Source and various other modifications interested in assisting me. At the moment I am trying to get some character models put together for showcasing when I pitch the idea to a publisher, so I am requesting some assistance from the Z-Brush community to help me make some models from concept art.

If everything goes well, and I can get some investors and publishers assisting me with my idea and funding so development can take place, this may be a major well paying job opportunity. I have the name Copyrighted and the game’s concept notarized so the concept itself and name is protected under federal law, however all of that is worthless when development hasn’t even taken place yet. I am looking to change that, and I am willing to take several people on board if I see portfolio’s that fit the design scheme I have in mind.

When designing the model and making its skin keep in mind that it is ABSOLUTELY imperative that the model is extremely realistic, in the RTS there isn’t magic elves or orcs involved. The game is centered on a realistic depiction of how life was back in 741 A.D. so you won’t find warlocks or wizards anywhere. In the game there are four playable races: The Nordic, Celtic, Irish and Vampiric. The model that I would like created is of a ‘Vampiric Breacher’, a shadowy infantry soldier that is completely decked out with weapons and equipment. Vampiric Breachers have 10 throwing knives, a Folk’Tu-Rach (Folk’Tu-Rach is the fighting style for the Vampiric, martial arts and ancient guerilla warfare in short; very evasive, tactical and unorthodox style of fighting) one handed curved sword, two to four long stilettos and an imported Japanese Katana as the primary weapon. Their armor is high-density leather composite with interwoven steel plating sewn into the cuirass. At the moment I do not have leg armor, however if someone can come up with something very unique to work as the leg armor it will help me decide if you’re worth bringing onto the team.

The Vampiric race is my interpretation of what people thought wood elves were in ancient times. Also due to their tall muscular and pale complexity I thought that it would be neat to add a vampire like twist onto things, even though they aren’t actually vampires; far from it actually.

I do not know if this is the correct section to add this, but I thought I would come onto this website and give it a thought; I’ve seen some absolutely nerve racking phenomenal work done from the community here and I would honestly love to bring a couple people onto my development team if they can show themselves worthy. So please present to me your online portfolio as well as some attempts on making the model, and I will check back here whenever someone replies and react accordingly. If all else fails, you will have gained a very nice portfolio piece and I hope that I have been some inspiration to you.

Thanks,

-Robert B.

PS: I have about 65 pages worth of game concepts written up, as well as the full balanced game mechanics written out on top of about 25 new genre forming features that the game will include; so there is a TON of work to be done and anyone that believes they can contribute to the operation is more than welcome to do so. At the moment I’m looking for a full development team, publishers and investors. If you are an investor or know a company that may be interested in funding us let me know and I swear to god I’ll bake you cookies. Thanks again!

Good luck…

Thank you

Hmm, no replies… Any tips on how I can talk to the community to get a little bit of assistance? Or do people with zbrush hate peramiters? All of which is okay, I would just like to know what I did wrong when writing what I wrote… if anything :-(.

Thanks,
-Robert

I don’t think that you did anything wrong, maybe post some more images?

At the moment that is pretty much everything that I have detailing the concept art for the video game… I got the rest of the notary information finalized today, as well as the paperwork for a VA Copyright, so I am close to making a website for the game itself. This is not that strict of a project, just a run with it type thing. Nothing here is final, I would like to see this as evolving and turning into something really cool with a nearly finished end product.

Also, are there other websites (or maybe this one works also?) where I can contact developers in all aspects of gaming and modding, get them together and possibly form a development team for temporary pro-bono or student internship work? Since finding a publisher and funding is very difficult, I would like to possibly create the game as freeware - or at least a demo of it, so that the name is out and the hype can build. If I can get funding for this project I can guarantee it’ll be larger than anything out on the market. Everyone that will work on it will be credited to the LETTER on anything that they create, so do not look at this as a content pit.

Hi Robert

I think you’d generate a better response by offering a ‘token’ (small) financial return to those who’d undoubtedly
be interested in getting involved in such a project.

You are after all looking for an

“extremely experienced ZBrush modeler”
, and the chances are such artists would either be in employment and have little incentive to gamble on unpaid work,
or perhaps need some income to cover their basic costs for what would seem to be a considerable amount of work.

Either way, I wish you the best in making ends meet

Chris

Hey Rob, I wish you good luck. I can see that you mean it serious and your way to approach it on this forum is certainly not wrong. The thing is, that most pros on this forum do already work in this industry (or Animation/Film), and thus have not really much interest in something like this. However Zbrush also attracts a lot of hobbyists such as myself. There are certainly people not doing it for a life with profesional skills, but I assume most do not feel experienced enough for this kind of job (I dont). Thats why I imagine you dont get many responses.

Edit: I shd read others replies before posting, Atwooki already said all.

Well, I will take care of my development team after I can get the thing published that is. I would like to have 50% of the sales given to my development team. This includes a half percentage (0.5%) of royalty for the end product to each developer working on this. Also, after I can find a publisher and various investors it will be a year round paying job.

EDIT: This doesn’t exactly have to be a professional in the industry working on it, just someone that knows what they’re doing to some degree. I don’t need a ZBRush deity or anything haha.

Robert

I know exactly where you are coming from, as I tried to do the same thing. I was hoping someone wanted to take up the challenge of creating a realistic Manticore for a feature I am developing…got the same response you did.

It seems that no one wants to pick up a challenge unless it will help them monetarily. And for the most part, I don’t blame them.

I will help out and model for you…

I will admit I am not the most experienced modeler on here…and no, you won’t find my work on here…but I love a challenge and love to help out others. Who knows…maybe in the future you can give me a hand with something.

If you are willing to gamble on an unknown, let me know…and I will get started.

I am planning on modelling it in pieces, and putting it all together in 3DS max so I can pose it properly.

Let me know your thoughts on this…

cheers
Dave

  1. move back in with mommy and daddy
  2. get summer job
  3. save some $
  4. write a real synopsis and business plan
  5. offer real money to your production team
  6. shop for angel investors (ie: mommy and daddy)
  7. sell, sell, sell

or

  1. befriend people with skill
  2. write a real synopsis and business plan
  3. shop for angel help
  4. sell, sell, sell

you have done neither, asking perfect strangers to hop on board your dream for no compensation is a tough thing to do, and not the most realistic either. i might sound harsh, but its in your best interest.

after all this, you have to sell, SELL like a madman, and that means you gotta convince people of your dream, not just inform people of it, and you haven’t convinced anyone, except this other guy here…who for some reason, takes pity on your project due to a similar plight he was in.

I agree, I’ve seen dozens of such requests for unpaid contributions for later ‘riches’, both for games and comics in developement.

You are unlikely to get ‘serious’ contributors until you get serious yourself. Find some investment, work up a presentation then find more investment, but don’t expect anyone to give up their time and effort just because you find the project exciting.

EDITED: You’re not worth my time.

Do NOT let this get personal, folks.

mudboxhype, you could have given your advice in a less antagonistic manner.

Robert B., if you have a problem with someone’s post you should either report it to the moderators or respond via email or private messages. Public retaliation is never acceptable.

Thanks.

you are right, i was a bit antagonistic. i apologize if anyone’s feelings got hurt.

I think this (initial post) is all about dreaming.
Further more, I believe that a lot of users of todays software are sharing this dream of building one of these little escapes from the real world.
The tools at hand (not only Z2) will certainly allow to follow that dream and maybe make it real.

Still, to convince anybody to work on a dream, I think it needs more then a few sketches. By asking for the ultimate modeler the stakes are set perhaps a bit too high.
Hobbyists (no matter of what talent) will be shyed away, while the few professionals that are really frequenting any forum will find not enough serious information within these lines.

There are sites, devoted to game-making, and I guess that you will be more lucky there, by finding folks that are on the same level there.
Just make sure, that you have some kind of a plot worked out, something that will capture the imagination of people.
Looking for “professionals” will not be the best thing that you can do. Look for somebody that can share your dream, no matter at what level.

So I really think that mudboxhype sort of “condensed” what thes is to say all about dreaming, and my sermon will probably be of no help to you.
But, believe it, I had the same dream for some years, too.
Best of luck!

I’m sharing about 4% of the material I have generated for this project, you honestly believe I would spill the beans detailing every aspect of this project? That’s a copyright nightmare…

… “sharing”: the link you gave leads to a perfect blank page.
I can see not much of an issue concerning any copyright for this one??

Either way, good luck convincing people to join your dream/project.

HAHAAH. This thread was funny and entertaining. Sad that it ended so soon. Ever hear of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment? It is a game company built off a dream like the one this thread was and its in Mesa Arizona and its current project is the MMORPG Stargate Worlds. I had a chance to tour the facility, meet seasoned designers and veterans who have been in the business for years. I wonder if some of them even check out these threads. Anyway, it takes millions to put out a professional game and the initial cost to get it looked at will need someone who has the funds and is willing to invest it and then get a crew to go out and find more investors to keep a steady stream of cash coming in because a production team’s monthly burn rate is what some people make in a lifetime. If you want to build a “team” you will have to find people close to you who have connections and can introduce you because reaching out to total strangers is ineffective–as you have already found out.

I`m confused.
What must we do if we want to help you?
Low poly models for your game or just concept pictures?
It sounds very exciting… when do I start working?

Keep walking…
