Replacing geometry

Hi,

So I want to make a chain necklace. So I’ve taken a bit of geometry from around a figure and remeshed it and put it on it’s own subtool layer. So how would I select that and replace that with a chain IMM or what ever technique is out there?

I’ve looked all over YouTube for a video that explains that in depth but most of the time it’s barely covered so steps are left out so I’m stuck!

Thanks so much for the help!

Hello @RAMWolff,

Probably the easiest approach here would be to create a Tri-part Curve IMM brush. The end caps would be the clasp, and the chain links would be the repeating chain section. The it’s only a matter of drawing out the curve you want, and the brush will draw out the necklace along the curve.

Good luck! :slightly_smiling_face:

I know how to do all that but there is a trick to getting a path line perfectly around the line of poly’s (poly loop) and then a click for the IMM brush to just load along that path instantly. I have no idea how to do that!

Thanks for the help!

You can click on any active curve with a curve IMM brush, and it will draw out the stroke.

So you could draw out your curve manually with the brush itself, make contact with the start point on your mesh where you wish the clasps to converge at and then hold down SHIFT as you drag off to the side in order to make the curve loop around the mesh, use the topology brush to draw out the curve, or use Stroke> Curve Functions > Frame Mesh to establish a curve based on polygrouping, open mesh borders, or creasing. New in ZBrush 2021.5 Stroke menu is also the Curves Helper plugin which will let you draw curves with ZSphere chains.

Thank you! I’ll give that a try!
