Renderman Deep Shadows issue

Hi everyone,
I’m really not sure where to turn to except for here. So here it goes.

Basically whenever I use deep shadows (in Renderman), it makes each polygon very visible. To demonstrate what I mean, here’s a picture:

How do I use deep shadows, but keep the mesh looking smooth?

do you have subdiv scheme attached to the object shape node? What shading rate are you using in the quality settings?
