Rendering HD Geometry for all SubTools (Mac version available 11-20-08)

The original HD Render All script has now been updated as a plugin. This is for rendering all subtools with HD Geometry if used. It makes it possible to use perspective for the render.

Update 11/20/2008:
This plugin is now available for ZBrush 3.1 PC and ZBrush 3.12 Mac. You can get it from the Download Center.

Unzip the zip file and place the .zsc file in your ZBrush3/ZStartup/ZPlugs folder. Restart ZBrush and the Render HD Geometry sub menu will be at the bottom of the Render palette.

Using HD Render All:

  1. You must have a polymesh loaded for the script to work. Draw it on the canvas and press ‘T’ to enter Edit mode.

  2. Adjust the position and perspective of your model.

  3. When ready, press the Render All button. When the render is finished, export the image from the Document palette.

  4. Pressing the Reset button will clear the render and restore your model to Edit mode.

To render a turntable with HD Geometry use Turntable Plus.

Thanks to Bingo_Jackson for the method for this version.

I hope you find the plugin useful,

OK, Marcus

many thanks for that. I will try out.

Cheers Roland

haven’t gotten into HD geometry yet, but I’m sure I will in the future.

thanks for making the rendering part relatively painless, marcus_civis!

Thanks for sharing this!!

brilliant!

Hey that’s a really GREAT plugin Marcus :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Thanks a bunch

Chris

Thanks guys, I’ve updated the zscript after Bingo_Jackson came up with a much better method.

Thanks,

TD

is it top secret squirrel stuff? or can we get a synopsis of what this does now as opposed to what you did originally.

not really important if it works I reckon…but am a curious bird.

It’s not secret. The original method used a subtool which had tiny polys at each corner to preserve the perspective while the other subtools were switched off. The new method switches the inactive subtool opacity to 0. As long as all the subtools are ‘ON’ (and the script makes sure of this), the perspective is maintained but the inactive subtools don’t show. Each subtool in turn is rendered (in HD if it has it) and then snapshot to the canvas.

cool…thanks Marcus.

Just the heads up on an update. There’s a bug in ZBrush that can cause a crash if you use subtool transparency when there is more than one document Layer. The script now switches off the Render:Flatten button before activating subtool transparency, so it’s safe to use it with more than one layer.

thanks Marcus!

sweet! many thanks, marcus.

Aaaah… Nice one Marcus thanks for that :+1: I hadn’t even got as far as to try it with other layers yet, but great to know; many thanks

Chris

marcus_civis…

the render time for each frame in Z is by anyway much shorter than anythink i m use to in 3D… even in HD.

so…I wish i could do a turn with my geometry in HD?! is it possible with your script to make some thing like that??

will it be to much of a request??

Emmanuel.

Hi, Marcus, thanks for the script. Been using the first rev and it works like a charm.

But the revB, I can’t seem to load ZB with it installed. Does anyone have this problem too?

Also, it seems to render everything even the hidden subtools. I had to delete everything else before using the script.

Otherwise, this one’s a lifesaver. Thanks again.

Oh, yeah! That would be great! To have your turntables in HD quality. MMMMWAH!

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Emmanuel, That’s a nice idea and may be possible. I’ll take a look when I have a moment.

feureau,
Have you installed the zscript in the ZPlugs folder? It should NOT be installed there as it’s not a plugin. It will cause ZBrush to abort on launch. Put it in the ZScripts folder. You need to load it from the ZScripts:Load button each time you need it.

The zscript is set up to render all subtools, whether visible or not and whether they have HD or not (rendering at the top subdiv level in that case). The point was to give a render of a whole sculpt with perspective, if used. It may be that rendering ‘visible’ subtools will be a useful option, in which case I may add it later. Whatever, there are other subtool helper scripts which could be incorporated into a general subtools plugin but maybe Pixologic have some things in the pipeline so I’m inclined to hold off a little.

Cheers,

Hi Marcus
i ned to tell you about the problem i have with your HD Render Plugin.
So, i use this Plug a lot and in ZBrush3 i had no problems

So where is the problem exactly: I have on my model 37 subtools.
The HD Render stops rendering by the 30th subtool.

Can you fix that,dear friend?

Cheers

Roland

Hello Roland,

Thanks for mentioning this. There have been some changes in ZB 3.1 that have affected zscript behaviour. I’ll try and take a look over the weekend and fix this.

Cheers,
