Render Bump + Color in Zbrush

Hello,

Is there a way to render both the color texture and a bump map within Zbrush natively? I can view the bump alone, using the bump viewer material and the bump map assigned to the texture. Or, I can view the color map alone, with any material assigned. How is it possible to view both for use in a final render?

Best,
Jacques

By turning your bump texture into an Alpha (Texture > Make Alpha), and assigning your color texture you can view both at once.

Tool > Displacement > Intensity, Mid and Mode determine how the Alpha map is applied to your model. For a bump map leave Mode disabled, set Mid to the grey value of your Bump texture and Intensity to whatever looks best.

To view an alpha as a Bump or Displacement map you must also have a texture assigned. In addtion, Displacement viewing also requires you to disable Quick3D mode (shortcut ‘f’).

Hi,

Thank you for your help. Your advice worked perfectly. For me, the intensity defaulting to 0, and the texture assignment were throwing me off; without your input, it would have taken a while to hunt that down!

Best,
Jacques

Displacement requires Quick to be turned off, but bump does not.

Thank you everyone for this thread! What a revelation. I’ve been wanting to render higher details in ZBrush with my own materials without working in super-high subdivisions.

Im just trying to export a bump map from Zbrush into Maya, but whenever I do, I get these artifacts that show up as harsh lines across my models head. Heres a picture of what the model looks like in ZBrush with the bump map, what it looks like in Maya, and a cropped and filled screen grab of the bump map. I tried the Smooth UVs button prior to generating the map. No luck. Please help! Thanks!

Is there anyway to create a colour map in realtime, while still veiwing the bump/displacement map?
Thanks
