So I have a pretty good grasp on the modeling and painting tools in zbrush. But the thing that continues to elude me even after watching multiple youtube videos and looking it up in the manual is simply bouncing back and fourth between different meshes. Like say I have a head made and then I want to build a separate helmet as well. How do I switch between the two and get them to position properly in zbrush? I’ve tried multiple times to do this and they either stick together, or don’t move at all. Also when I add another object to my sub tools I cant get it to show with the prev object. I probably sound like the biggest idiot in the world but im at about my wits end trying to figure this out.
there are lots of different ways of building helmet/accessory, but it maybe sounds like you havent been using subtools?
in the tool menu under SubTool you can click the append button to add other meshes to your model, then switch between them to isolate them (hotkey n to do it quickly). This is similar to photoshop layers in that you can hide certain subtools and only work on the currently activated tool.
you can also look at polygroups to accomplish a similar thing all within the same tool by masking and then grouping certain regions of your mesh. That way you can quickly isolate areas and hide them by clicking polygroups with Ctrl+Shift. These polygroups can also be made into subtools using the Subtool->Split->Groups Split button. Look in the zbrush classroom for how to work with polygroups
