Hi.
I am unable to activate the slo-mo features (Slow Forward / Slow Backward).
I pause the ‘play’ and click the icons but get no response.
Any suggestions?

You can try VLC player which is free and offers lots of interesting feature. The best feature is that it is FREE 
Looks like Company which developed VLC player lacked in their marketing efforts. The product is far much better than any media player including windows media player.
