Rankin remake from UT99

Hi all, heres a remake of Rankin from UT99. I was inspired by Unreal Tournament 3 and Gears of War. I plan to get him playable in UT3. The low poly model came out to 12,880 tris and used two 2048x2048 textures.

Excellent job man! It looks very clean, precise, and professionally done. The normals transfered beautifully and the texture matches him perfectly. He definitely belongs in Unreal! Keep on brushin’ man! :+1: :+1:

great job, I’m still a huge fan of UT99, good to see him again. As a little crit, the decals on his armor seem a bit ‘bright’, with the visible wear on the armor and the paint they’d probably be a bit duller. The decals on the front seem fine to me, the rear decals are the ones that stand out. Opinion. What did you use to achieve his stubble btw?

phakscion- Thanks, yeah, I should tone down the decals and make them dirtier on the back. For the stubbles, I used a couple of different alpha brushes and carefully stroked them.

Chamelion- Thanks. Yeah, you will be able to play him soon. I am now working out all the kinks and polishing in the Unreal3 Editor.

Aftermath- I used Zmapper to bake normalmaps for all the organic parts of the model. And I used xNormal to bake normalmaps for all the hard surface parts of the model.

Here are the parts of the model I created in Zbrush. All the parts were then put together in Zbrush to form Rankin. Using Zbrush really helped me to sculpt out organic shapes and small details much faster and efficient than if I were to use sub-d modelling in Max. It also allows me to take advantage of the use of Zmapper to bake all my normal maps right within the software.

Here are some shots of my normal map that I baked from Zmapper. It is always nice to be able to view how it looks like on your model right away. You can quickly choose your low sub-d level and it becomes your low poly model without having to retopo the high poly mesh.
