Random added topology when importing?

Hi guys! I created a popcorn container in Maya and wanted to edit it in zbrush but unfortunately I’m getting some unwanted edges added and it’s turning into a mess. The edges added seem really random to me. The first image is how I wanted the topology to go originally. The second is how I fixed it because zbrush didn’t like the 1st image’s format, and the third is how zbrush changes the geometry when I import the second image.

It doesn’t seem to like how I set the topology up in Maya. I wanted the area on the bottom part of the model to have more detail than the top so I added topology for that. Would anyone mind giving me some tips I’m pretty new to retopology and I’m not sure if I am doing it wrong. Is there any way to stop zbrush from adding random edges? Thanks!

I think zbrush will only add an edge like that if it encounters an n-gon. Have you run a check to maya to make sure you don’t have two vertices where you think there should only be one?

Thanks Cryrid! I checked in Maya and the model had some overlapping vertices. I’m still cleaning it up now but I think that probably was it. Thanks for the help! : )
