From my graphic novel “IN HELL”
All aspects of this design are deeply meaningful! I have thought long and hard about this thing!
For example:
The cross floating above him is a symbol of his faith (an image of St. Peter on his upside-down cross). Originally not a Satanic symbol. There is a weird kind of inverted “one-up-manship” to the gesture of seeking to be humiliated and killed in a way that is harsher/more ridiculous than the one Jesus suffered. In a topsy-turvy world, where freedom is slavery and weakness is strength, the weakest, most wretched would be king no? Really curious logic.
The setting is, of course, Hell, a place that is, in my story, filled with coral-like structures and crystals, both things that feel like ancestors of life (to me). Corals are, of course, alive-alive, I know that, but they can look kind of like living stones at times don’t they? Crystals look a bit like pre-living life because they assert repetitive structures, similar to virus…
In any case I Hope you find it cool/interesting.
