Is there a quick way to hide unselected subtools? Like an inverse select or something. I have a bunch of subtools and the eyeball method sucks when you have a bunch of tools. I can’t find any options in the folders options. The pizza box would be way to select but I don’t see any visibility options. If I right click after pizza box select nothing happens.
Hi @jimmylegs
Yes!
The fastest way to do this is to use Solo mode. The Solo Mode button is located on the bottom right side of the default UI viewport, or in the Transform menu. This function will hide all non-active subtools regardless of the visibility settings in the Subtool menu. This button can be hotkeyed.
Also of note, Shift-clicking the visibility (eyeball) icon in the Subtool entry in the Subtool palette will toggle the visibility on or off for ALL subtools. The currently active subtool will always be visible.
The new Visibility Set icons at the top of the Subtool palette can also be a quick way to store various subtool visibility configurations for quick recall.
What I am trying to do is compare my model to Ryan’s ecroche model so there are hundreds of tools. If the solo tool allowed you to select multiple tools that would be great. Selection sets are a huge hassle if you don’t set them up as you go. You should be able to just ctrl click on the parts you want and right click invert and select hide. It would be cool if there was something like the ctrl shift for polygroups except for tools.
For multiple tools this seems to be the best for what I am trying to do. Someone mentioned this on discord. Is to alt select the wanted tools and that will show you where they are in the list of dozens. Turn them off then use the command in the subtool master to invert visibility. Then you could create vis sets.
Seems like the simple stuff is a nightmare and the stuff you wouldn’t think possible is easy in zbrush.
Thanks for your help as always.
Ok, I may be able to interest you in another trick then.
There is a way to select subtools in exactly the way you describe. This requires your tool being in Mutli-transpose mode, which is the only way to select multiple subtools to a limited extent.
Activate the Gizmo and click on the right most Icon above the manipulator, so it unfolds into a “pancake stack”. Your tool is now in multi-transpose mode, and you will be able to select multiple subtools. In this mode subtools that are selected appear as solid, and non-selected subtools appear with a horizontal line pattern.
Your tool may enter this mode with subtools completely selected, partially selected, or all unselected, but the basic functions will be similar to Ctrl-Shift clicking with polygroups. At any time you can:
- Ctrl-Shift click directly on a subtool in the viewport to toggle its selection status.
- Ctrl-Shift click in empty canvas space to invert the selection
- Ctrl-Shift drag in empty canvas space to clear all selections
Once you have the selection of tools you want, click on the “New Folder” button in the Subtool menu. If you have multiple subtools selected in Multi-Transpose mode, this feature will recognize that and ask if you would like to create a new folder from the selected tools. If you create a folder, then you will be able to quickly toggle the visibility for all other subtools but that folder, keeping the selected tools visible.
Hey thanks that’s pretty useful for getting organized. Now I have Ryan’s parts mixed with mine in a folder though. Maybe I can piece together a workflow of some kind.
Thanks again
Hello.
If your question is still relevant, I think this might help
zplugins → subtoolmaster → invert vis
