Quick newbie question regarding harder surfaces/cleaning meshes.

Hey so i’m still super new to Zbrush and have been looking into this for a while but can’t find a solution to this problem aside from re-topology if that even would be the solution. So hopefully you all can blow my mind here aha.

I’m modelling/sculpting this hammer (Poppy’s SG hammer from LoL) and any adjustments i make in the way of pulling in/out parts of it it’s always super jagged and i figured i gotta be doing a lot of things wrong aha. It’s sitting around 3 million polygons if that helps anyone. Also i’ve been playing around with polygroups alot hoping that i could polish by groups or something similiar but masking out this many groups would take a lifetime. I’m not sure if theres an amazing fix i could do to this right now or if its something i have to setup before i start adjusting things idk but any help would be super appreciated! Thank you.

Your mesh just isn’t dense enough for the shapes you want to create.

You have a quite a few options.

  • Zremesh at a fairly high resolution which should hold all/most of your forms. Then subD that and you should start to get cleaner meshes
  • Retopo the mesh
  • add more subD levels
  • use live booleans
  • work with multiple subtools instead of trying to do bevels on your mesh

Good Luck

Thanks for the replies but i finally found a video with the (or a) solution that has worked perfectly and given me the result i wanted. I’ll post it here in case anyone also has this problem.

That’s a good solution, and I use it a lot. However, if you want crisp corners on your shapes (notice his star doesn’t have any), you’re better with other solutions, which were already mentioned.
