Hello!
I was just commissioned to do an illustration for a magazine and I wanted to try using Zbrush to create it in its entirety, but I’ve been running into some issues and I was hoping someone here with more experience could help me sort them out:
1.- Is there any way to set the resolution higher than 8192 pixels? After using AAHalf button that resolution drops to 4096, which would be more than sufficient for the current task at hand, but I would also like to create a really large print of it and the extra resolution would come in handy. BPR seems to eliminate the need for the AAHalf operation, but I can only get it to work on actual tools, and I’ve been working on some effects on pixols dropped on the canvas using the Depth, Alpha and Bump Brushes that I’d love to incorporate in the illustration.
2.- Is there any way to isolate document or canvas layers or should I just save separate documents and assemble the results in Photoshop? I’d be missing out on some interesting shadowing between separate elements dropped on the canvas, but I’m guessing they could be faked in Photoshop if there’s no workaround.
3.- Waaaay back in 2.5 I seem to remember that there was a way to readjust a tool’s position regarding dropped pixols on the canvas so that it could appear in front or behind them using what is now the move transpose tool (it produced a widget composed of circles on all three axis of some sort.) Is that tool still around? If not, is there any other way to achieve its results? Maybe I’m just using transpose the wrong way, but I seem unable to reproduce the effect.
4.- Whenever I save a document file with pixols that gave been messed with I get slight but noticeable variations when I reopen it. Is there something I’m forgetting to turn on or off before saving to prevent this from happening?
5.- When working with pixols on the canvas, particularly on a large document, I’m having trouble getting a large draw size on my brushes, even after setting a higher limit on the draw preferences. If I draw a tool and then clear the canvas I can get the draw size to go a bit larger, but that’s about it.
I realize that all these issues could be easily fixed by working with tools and subtools and rendering those directly instead of working on the document, but there are many interesting possibilities that working on canvas pixols affords that I would love to incorporate into the final illustration which is why I’m rather stubbornly persisting on this.
Anyway, if anyone here has some advice I’d be enormously grateful for any pointers to these questions. Cheers!
