Question regarding projection

Hey guys, Im new here at Zbrush Central, and fairly new at Zbrush as well.

Im working is this male character, which will be a roman soldier that I intend to use in my demo reel.

Here is the question: I started this model from a basic (really basic) mesh that was originally modelled in maya. It worked well for the torso and legs, however when I started sculpting the foot I noticed that one of the toes didnt work well, and I now its because the topology in that region is funky, I was just trying to do something I saw in the internet… didnt work well lol.

Is there anyway I can project the foot, AND the rest of the body in a NEW basic mesh? If so, how? if anyone has a tutorial or can guide me I would appreciate.

Thank you.

If the only problem is the foot i suggest you to go to the lowest subdivision level, export it (if you use maya you can also use goz to make it automatically) and rework the foot topology in your favoirte modeling software. then reimport the new topology over the same subdivision level you exported before. a window will ask you if you want to reproject the details on the new mesh or delete the higher subdivisions, click yes and it should work. You could get some distortions in areas of the mesh overlapping each other or where pieces of mesh are too close (for example on the foot toes), but it’s something you can fix with a fast smooth/resculpt

Thanks for your reply.

I tried to do what you said, however when I brought back to Zbrush the new mesh using goZ, the divisions got deleted.

Anyway, I already created another base mesh to work with (fixed the foot, but also adjusted the initial position of the arms and the topology as well), I just dont wanna lose what I sculpted already, since Im new at zbrush Im looking for the best topology to help me sculpt, which means I MIGHT have to bring new mesh into Zbrush.

Have you reimported the mesh while having the original tool in edit mode at the same subdivision level you exported? this is crucial when reimporting the modified mesh to have the details reprojected on it. in this case the program would ask you if you want to reproject the higher subdivisions on the newly created mesh (just hit yes and it is done)

After having some problems with goZ I finally got it to work, however I still cant fix my problem. Some changes actually get transfered to Zbrush, however some dont. As instance whenever u EXTRACT, or delete some edges, change the flow, it transfer, but then delete the divisions. this is really annoying.
I guess I will have to sculpt it again.

Hey, nevermind… Its working perfectly! Thanks a lot.
