Question on Zmodeler and Beginners guide to Zbrush book

I am stuck at a early step in the zmodeler process because the book doesn’t do a great job of explaining a step.

It asks to "add an extra edge loop to the middle of the cylinder (step B), dynamesh, and delete lower to achieve picture C.

I cannot for the life of me figure out where they want me to add the edge loop in the “center” Every place I have tried gives me a completely different end result than required.

This is my current version, the front also didnt create another polygroup that is implied in the picture when I beveled the edge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

solved the polygroup problem, still missing the added center edge loop piece…

Hi @cknappusn ,

I’m not clear on exactly where you want to add the edge loop. It looks like the extra geometry in Image C comes from the mesh having been subdivided .

However, the simplest way to add an edge someplace with Zmodeler is typically with ZModeler> Edge> Insert. Setting the target to Edge Loop will insert a single edge loop running perpendicular to the clicked edge. If you set the action to “Multiple Edge Loops” it will let you space out a series of edge loops at regular intervals.

I can’t account for what you might be reading, but the fastest way to get from the cylinder in image B to the Cylinder in image C is to subdivide it once, then use the Edge> Insert function to delete a couple extra edge rings on the cylinder endcaps by Alt-clicking on them.
