Question on how to draw curve out as straight line

Hi there

i have trouble finding out the drawing a straight curve line out from the mesh. when i try it just sticks to mesh.

i saw a tutorial video and was wondering how to do the method for making a straight curve outwards from the model

i have included the video below with the timestamp for the method i am trying to do. it starts around the 10 second mark.

I do not own the video i am just using it as a refference to demonstrate what i am trying to do credit for the video goes to the original uploader if there is a problem or something i should not be doing please let me know

Hi Charlie.

The artist in the video is using the “Curve Tube” brush. This is not to be confused with the “Curve Tube Snap” brush which will snap to the surface of the mesh.

The curve behavior can be set to draw out perfectly straight segments in Stroke > Curve > “As Line”.

found it thank you so much

i was using the curve tube brush but i think i had trouble describing certain aspects of my problem and what i was aiming for.

i remember you helped me with my visor and clipping topic

Thanks again

This is such a great method for hair. I just learned about the bend curve and I’m having fun with it!

A little tip I picked up was to keep the resolution points set to 3-5 for the bendcurve, just to get the shape blocked out, and then increase the points for detailing. This avoids the excess moving of bendcurve points displayed in the video.

Also, using the gizmo to rotate the strand down along the hair mass helps speed things up. Like at 20 seconds in the video, the sculptor moves the gizmo’s origin to the root of the hair piece - use that moment to rotate it down along the character’s back.

Happy sculpting!

Sweet thanks for the tips and again credit goes to original maker of the video : Daniel Garcia
