Question! >> Layered displacements in maya7 - like taron's technique

I’m curious to find a way to emulate Taron’s layered displacement technique in maya7. Does anyone know if this is possible? I’d like to combine the displacenents in a similar fashion as J. Osipa does with bump maps in his book ‘Stop Staring’.

Does Anyone know how to do it or where I can fiind info on this?

Thanks!

Eric Miller briefly (VERY briefly) covers this topic in the Hypereal facial setup dvd from Alias. Basically he uses +/- Average nodes to re-create the blendshape technology inside of hypershade. Instead of blending between models, he blends between displacement maps. I haven’t seen the Osipa technique but is there any reason why it wouldn’t work for displacement maps if it works for bump maps?

Jason’s book covers piggybacking the bump maps into the alpha offset inputs. This is not going to work as well for animated displacements. The Erik Miller DVD is the best place for that like Lyr said. Check Ryan’s post herefor a look at the shader network you will need.
