Question: Crop & Fill Zscript?

Hi!
Quick question: Everytime I sit down and use ZBrush I end up importing a picture and cropping and filling the canvas with it. This is pretty useless because you can’t do anything with it but look at it. I usually end up making a high density plane and doing my best to match the plane - with the texture on it, to the document size- (which is the size of the texture).

With the texture sitting on a plane of Pixols, I can then use the roller brush on it, or make displacement maps for use in After Effects, etc…

If there is already a zscript made that does this, then please point me in the right direction. Digits made me this script back in 1.55b which sadely dosnt work in version two. If any of you zscripters want to make this, I’d be eternally gratefull!!

Thanks in advance

Hey Ole Buddy!

I fixed the original CanvasMaker for you, it should work as before. Perhaps I will work on a more visually appealing interface but this should get you going again.

See Post below for newer UPDATE

Hey ole buddy

Here is CanvasMaker with a new skin

I also changed the Draw button to place the Texture Plane on the canvas with the correct Aspect ratio of the Texture. To fill the canvas with a Texture first use the “Size Canvas to Texture” button first. This will make sure that any texture you use will not be distorted. You can then double or half the Canvas from the Document Palette to get the workspace you need

Let me know how it comes out

EXCELLENT!! Man I can’t work without this!
I can’t believe your’ve made two versions of this while I’ve been at work! You are such a wizard!!

With this I’ve come up with a way to create selected layer portions like photoshop.
Basically You fill the document with your texture and then paint over the area of the photo with the Single layer brush (50% RGB and 50% Zintensity & focal shift equals drawsize + hard edge alpha). This raises the area slightly, but you can’t see it. So you use the MRGBZgrabber (Autocrop off) and this makes an alpha of the raised area then make a stensil of the alpha. Make the stencil the actual size and fit the area you masked off. Then inverse the stencil and change stroke to Rectangle and fill the document with black - with exception to the area you masked off - which is under the stencil. Then inverse the stencil again and pick up the texture and turn on transperancy. Create a new layer and use your Canvas Maker ZScript to fill the layer, but it will just draw the bit you masked off earlier!. Now you can move the layer around. I’m sure I’ve gone the long way around this!!
Rambling thoughts, but I wish there was a better tool for selecting areas of the document and turning it into a stencil, then pixol-flooding that stencil on another layer so you can fill the document with your texture.

I tried using your ZScript with stencil turned on and it crashed ZBrush!

Oddly enough I still can’t use the Roller Brush with your ZScript??

Hey are you still recieving the ZBrushers newsletter?? Is it OK?? I’m thinking of going HTML - email newsletters soon so I can include pictures. I’m not sure what program to use??

Back to the salt-mines. Again, THANK YOU for taking the time to make this!!!  :+1: :+1:
I’m a happy man!!

Slick trick! I gave it a whirl but I had no problem with the Stencil or roller brush on my machine.

I think I understand what you are doing, did you know that you can use Zbrush and Photoshop at the same time?

  1. Select your texture and export the image (so you don’t mess up the original)
  2. Open that PSD file in Photoshop
  3. Use Photoshop tools to select and block out your texture.
  4. Save the image from Photoshop
  5. Go back to Zbrush and Magic! The texture is updated with your changes
  6. then you can use CanvasMaker to fill your canvas.

See if that works for what you are doing

p.s. I don’t know if I have ever gotten a newsletter, not sure if I am still a member!
