Question: can I update UV after I subdivide?

Hello all, can anyone help me with this newbie question?

I built a low res cage of a human character in maya and layout the UV. Then I exported and bring it into Zbrush3. Subdivided and add a lot of details. That’s when I found out there’s something wrong in the UV. Is it possible to change the UV layout while preserving all the work that I’ve done? Could anyone kindly tell me how if that’s possible? Thanks in advance!

Well, I am no expert on this, but as nobody else has replied I will give it a shot. I believe you need to export out your lowest subdivision level, and make your UV adjustments but make sure you do not alter the point order or add or delete any points, and export your model when you are done. Now in ZB open your original model with all of your subdivide levels, put it on the lowest level, and make sure it is in edit mode, then import your model with the new UVs, this should trick ZB into switching out the UVs but keeping your subdivides. I am not 100% sure about that but give it a try and see if it works.

It works! Thanks so much Harmonic. Very appreciated! :+1:
