Question about the industry

Hello guys and girls

Before i say what i have to, i would just like to say that i`v been around the forums for a few years, coming and going, but never really registered before today, there was no need. Mainly just checking beautiful art you people create

Now to the real question, and it might sound weird, i don`t know.

I`v never really done any professional 3d work, just for my own pleasure, and even that was crappy most of the time.

How do you people work when you create art, what is your workflow like ? Do you create a base mesh, say human character in Max, for example, and then export to Zbrush to do all the hi res details you would ever need ? Where do you mostly paint your stuff, is it Photoshop, Mari, or some other program.

So my question is, is it possible to only use Zbrush, lets say as you tool if income. I love all things fantasy so i would like to someday become a creature, character artist, and that is why i ask all this questions.

And sorry for the bad english, not my first language.

No answers, really. I don`t like bumping threads, but still i think there are at least some poeple out there that could answer me.

It is quite possible to do a character from scratch in ZBrush; It’s also possible to get some great renders out. Usually you’ll see mention of other SW in the “pipeline” though. Many possible ways to create a base mesh. All ‘tools’ take time to get accustomed to. Some hammers works better for some jobs than others. Artists/craftspeople can create from what they have at their disposal. Technicians make things work. I believe the field is hard to break into unless you have skill, determination, possibly schooling and more often than not, the ability to use some of the other ‘Industry standard’ packages out there. Would you hire a plumber to wire your house? Making money is a good thing. Good luck.

What is you specific workflow Doug, if i may ask ? Lets say i was to make a full character. Would you make you base, low poly mesh in maya or max, and then import to zbrush for detailing, painting, etc, or do you just use zbrush for the whole process.

Solely ZBrush, while i do have a few other 3D software packages, I’ve certainly fallen in love with it. Thread I started recently.
