Question about Setup for 3D Print

Guys, I am trying to sculpt a 6" figure and set it up appropriately for 3D print.

Is this correct, or overkill?

I would give them 3 files: I detail parts (1 million polys) 1 body parts (1 million polys) and 1 joint setup (500k)

What’s your final output goal? Full figurine? Mass production? Injection molding? Personal? That will determine more of what you need to do on your 3d digital model.

If this is a one of a kind or personal model you would be better off printing it as a single piece, unless you need/want the arms, legs, hands, head, etc. to rotate. You shouldn’t need the framework either. You’ll see those in mass production pieces due to the process of injection molding. If you print those you’ll be wasting money as they aren’t necessary.

I second all of what MentalFrog said plus, if you are going to offer this a “kit” then you should minimize the amount of wasted
print material (if you really need sprues)

50% less plastic than original sketch.

thanks for the input guys, I will be printing it out just to paint and photograph to determine preorders. Once the preorder numbers are final, I’ve have a fabrication shop that builds aluminum molds made to cast the components and joints in PVC for varying elasticity levels.
Once figures are done and come back, I have to paint them all by hand and pop all the joints together. Usually several hundred of them.

And then they look like this…

I am worried about the resolution being comparable to these , but I know the first must be a learning experience of sorts!
