Question about Dyna Mesh

When I click on DynaMesh it asked me to “Freeze SubDivision Levels” and so I did, then DynaMeshed it and unclicked “Freeze SubDivision Levels” and this weird sharp things just came out (Can anyone please help me):

I apologize if this post is in the wrong thread I’m completely new here.

If you try to dynamesh an object with multiple subdivision levels, it will give you the option of “freezing subdivision”, which is an automated form of the subtool projection process where detail is projected from the original mesh onto the new, multi level tool. As to why you are experiencing projection errors I can’t say. Something may be problematic with your tool, or the projection settings in the subtool palette may need to be adjusted…most often the “Dist” slider.

If you’re dynameshing frequently and would like to simplify this process, it is recommended you delete your lower levels of subdivision during the dynamesh stage and only work at a single level of subdivision. Dynamesh works best for objects of medium to medium-high poly density.

Thanks Spyndel!

is there a way to remove the “The mesh is composed of multiple subdivision levels. Delete or Freeze the subdivision levels and try again. Action cancelled” because I don’t want to freeze anything (bad experience) It always asks me this when using CurveStrapSnap brush and can’t continue because of that message spamming me. I just want to work without it always interrupting or forcing me to delete or freeze something.

As I said, if you are dynameshing frequently or using insert brushes, it’s recommended to work with a mesh with no subdivision levels. Delete any lower levels before remeshing. Otherwise it has to initiate this process. Dynamesh does not support multiple subd levels.

Use dynamesh and insert brushes to quickly establish form, then use zremesher afterward to establish a new low poly mesh with clean topology, subdivide that, and project the detail from the original mesh onto it. Then you have a new object with multiple subd levels and good topology ready for a traditional multiple subd workflow. Any dynameshing should be infrequent, if at all, after that point.

Thank you! Deleting lower division made life easier!

Was my first time sculpting/using Zbrush and this is the result of your help: http://inkame.deviantart.com/art/My-first-sculpture-505553342

That’s very nice first work.

A common workflow is to use dynamesh frequently while working out the form and landmark details of an object a single level of subdivision, usually in the medium to medium high polygon density level. Then when you’re in the ballpark, remeshing with ZRemesher which will give you new low poly object with clean topology, subdividing that a few times, and projecting any missing detail onto it from the original object. That way you have a mesh with good sculpting topology, with multiple subdivision levels for more finely controlled sculpting, that you can begin sculpting finer detail into. The need for dynameshing after that point should be minimal.

Good luck!
