I have been away from zbrush and need a refesher, how does one put like a lip or nose brush on a model? I selected the lip brush, but it does not move to the mesh?
The Insert brushes operate like a Drag rectangle stroke by default, and you have to have a polymesh onscreen to insert them into. They are auto masked, so you can delete the polymesh you added them to afterwards if you want.
so when I have a mesh like a body, I can use the brush to draw it on the head. Or do I have to have a zsphere behind the body to be able to use the brush?
The insert brushes are meant more for use with Dynamesh. In this case specifically, see Working with Multiple Meshes with a DynaMesh and Dynamesh Actions.
Yea you can add a head or w/e else you want as an insert mesh, but you cant have any subdivision levels, so you either delete all your lower levels or insert what you need while you are still at the dynamesh stage. Otherwise, just make the addition a separate subtool like before, if you don’t want to lose your levels.
Just to clarify, I didn’t mean that Insert brushes should only be used with DynaMesh as they have other uses also, like placing multiple instances of a mesh with symmetry, as an example. Why I mentioned DynaMesh was, because I believe that madwolfproductions wanted to make the Insert part of the mesh he was inserting into, as to his initial post. ln which case he would want to use DynaMesh. I don’t think you would want to place a lip or a nose as a seperate subtool. Well, maybe if you were doing a Picasso you might. Anyway, my appologies for any confusion I might have caused.
As a correction to my own reply, you do not have to delete the lower subdivions to add an insert mesh after you’ve been sculpting a while. You can just press “Freeze Subdivision Levels”, and then you will be allowed to use insert mesh brushes. Sorry bout that.
