PS:Strange, but I cannot find the core limits of the various Vista dialekts. XP Home can operate two cores. XP Pro 4. And the server license more. But Vista with it’s plethora of memory and other restrictions??? Vista is a nightmare for every helpdesk…
Almost 2 weeks ago, went to a convention in Nashville. MicroSoft put it on for developers…my buddy and I aren’t developers, but it was free and they gave out free Office 2007…not too impressed as of yet. Though their video presentation was funny as all heck, my buddy has since put it thru the ringer/test and it came up short against current versions. I will get him to put together a little list of the problems. I dunno what this all has to do with the price of tea in China, but I thought I would put out this as a point of interest…

Lemonnado I am utilising 8 cores perfectly fine in XP Pro. I think they are stating CPU sockets ?
Regarding Vista I won’t be upgrading until I see how my main applications perform and what kind of penalty OpenGL performance suffers.
Yes, it’s sockets. Someone on CGTalk posted that as well. That will prolong the use of XP for me. I am not using a single MS application, not even the Mediaplayer. I need the OS to run my Apps and stay out of the CPU otherwise. I am also very curious how the DRM machinery impacts the performance and most importantly the output quality of the data on screen/media. I don’t need an OS which cripples output because I have a Graphics adapter with a TV output port and as a result I cannot watch my self created contents. Can’t wait for the new Apple 64Bit OS.

I would prefre install one of those cool desktops schems
seven more years of support for xp, if it matters.
Personally, I’m hoping vista bombs so badly that apple and/or linux are able to take the dominant seat in the desktop market. I really hate dual booting just because application X isn’t available for linux or mac 
I decided awhile ago i was done with Microsoft. Next computer will be a mac.
I’m still using XP, and my next upgrade will be to ubuntu. (Feisty coming out on the 19th)
Vista?
ZBrush screams on it. No crashes so far. One printer won’t run. All software I own runs with no problems. All problems were my fault for not reading how to use the new features. File system is much better and more intuitive. Aero is easy to turn off so no issues there. All in all - much better than XP Pro’s first release. The price is dirt cheap. Software developers give it preference for the most part. Customers use it overwhelmingly. From a strictly financial standpoint its the best choice for me. For techs or those with in house techs the opposite would be true. As far as Macs I’ve only received one Mac file from a customer in the last 12 months. The customer is always right. I’m rambling on for no reason whatsoever. I must be bored out of my mind. I’ve got three days work sitting on my desk and I don’t care. I am loosing my mind and I probably need help:lol: I’m going outside and get sunshine all over me and regroup. Thank you for letting me have a breakdown on this board;)
