PSD Support?

one of the best features (if it’s true anyway) about zbrush is that it can supposedly save to multi layered psd. how do i do that? can it be done in the demo version?

how?

yea, i want to know where the option for saving as a psd is in zbrush?

no, this is not possible … you can save a psd file, but it always contains only one photoshop layer, in which are all shown zbrush layers are combined

ZBrush will import layered PSD’s, but merges them into one layer. It also exports only one layer.

This is because layers in ZBrush are actually more versatile than layers in Photoshop. Each Photoshop layer is 2 dimensional and occludes anything on a lower layer. Each layer in ZBrush contains the entire height, width AND depth of the canvas. So elements on a “higher” layer can be behind (or even inside of) elements on a “lower” layer.

thanks for the info…can that one layer have transparencies? and where is the option to save as psd? even 1 layer would be ok if it can be transparent…i mean say i make a star in zbrush…the star only takes up so much canvas but there is lots of empty space…can that empty space be transparent and save as transparent and open as transparent in photoshop?

if your background is black, as default is, then open file in photoshop, and make background layer to layer 1, and set black to transparent

or …

use magic wand with tolerance 0 and select black and delete

and where is the option to save as psd?

you need to click export and save as psd or bmp - I don’t think u can do this with the demo version dough (?)

hope that helps

Also with the commercial version, you can capture the canvas depth and use that as a mask in Photoshop.

thanks. that helps a lot.

Cool info

not cool where’s the psd support if i can’t exporte multilayer!!! :stuck_out_tongue: :frowning: :o  :b4: :td: :td: :td: :td: :td: :td: :ex: :qu:

Kilik,

Aurick’s right, the native layer tools of Zbrush are really powerful.

If you still need to export them to photoshop, it’s not really a problem. You can export each layer individually by turning off all the rest, and exportiing one at a time. Use kokoro’s method to get your transparency back.

And let’s not forget the Live Update feature in Z2.

For example, if you’re working on a model in Edit Mode in ZBrush with a texture wrapped onto it that you’ve created in Photoshop with multiple layers. Now let’s say that you want to change one of the elements on one of those layers. You can open Photoshop, modify the texture, and as soon as you save it in Photoshop it will be updated on your model in ZBrush.

“You can open Photoshop, modify the texture, and as soon as you save it in Photoshop it will be updated on your model in ZBrush.”

 !!!
I can’t wait to try that!
