Projection Master Tutorial Not Working

Hey everyone!

I’ve started working through the Projection Master tutorial on ZClassroom from Sebastian Legrain. The first steps show setting up a column and creating a unified skin as the base to use Projection Master. In the video the column appears as a complete piece of geometry after creating the unified skin. I create a column using the exact steps specified but get geometry with missing components when creating the unified skin so can’t complete the rest of the tutorial. Anyone have any thoughts on why this is happening? I’ve reinitialized ZBrush, restarted, etc. and always get the same result. Very frustrating cause I would like to build-out some detailed geometry using this technique. The tutorial uses ZB 3.1 and I’m on 4R7, not sure if that’s affecting things or not. If anyone has any ideas why this happens I’d love to resolve it.

Thanks,
Chris

That tutorial was created before the advent of ZModeler.

http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/creating-meshes/zmodeler/

It can create exactly what you need very quickly.

You could even start with the DefaultCube ZPR found in the Projects folder of LightBox. Go to level one and do one Reconstruct Subdiv. You’ll now have a cube that’s 2x2. Delete the higher levels. From there it’s just a matter of extruding a longer length, which ZModeler can do easily. (Extrude, Flat Island, Step Size 1)

Thank you for the info Aurick! That process worked great and it’s great it can be setup with ZM. Only thing I’m running into now with Projection Master is that even with Normalized turned on in the settings when I make a stroke on the geometry, go back into PM and choose pickup when I get back into the full 3D view the stroke only appears on one side of the object. In the tutorial the sculpted geometry appears on all sides when rotated. Any thoughts or suggestions? Many thanks again!

Chris,
There’s an issue with Projection Master where you need to turn on Tool>Display Properties>Double in order to get the Double Sided function to work.

Thanks for all your help aurik I truly appreciate it. One more little issue and I’ll leave you alone. The double-sided setting in Display Properties took care of the stroke appearing on all sides but I’m running into a bizarre result I haven’t been able to track down a cause for. I apply the stroke with the Line tool with the shift key so it’s a straight line but when I drop out of Projection Master and rotate the object the sculpted stroke on the back of the geometry is higher than the stroke I placed. The image below shows the result. I’ve checked my steps and settings as well as creating a fresh model and not sure why this is happening. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them and get this working as shown in the tutorial. Thanks and have a great weekend!

Make sure Perspective is turned off on the right shelf.

Thought I had checked that when doing the last test but did a fresh one making sure persp was off before starting and it’s working beautifully now. Looking forward to all the awesome content that can be created with this process. Countless thanks to both of you for ironing this out!

Hello, I’ve run with the same issue. But now after applying the projection master and picking it up on the carved edades appears as an overlap. I have try many different ways and it still leaves a weird result of overlapping… can anyone please help. Thanks.
