Projection Master rotate not possible?!

Hi
My first post and hoping for some help!
I have searched the forum for this issue but none have worked for me.
I am in Projection Master and want to be able to rotate the alpha but that option is grayed out and not selectable.
I am using DragRect and the Standard brush ZAdd on and Z Intensity @25.
Hope that someone can enlighten me!
Regards all!

You can use the Directional Brush, which will let you change the rotation as you draw it out. You’ll need to change a few settings so that ZAdd is on, DragRect stroke selected, and so on.

@marcus_civis Thanks for the reply but I cant find any Directional brush… Where is that? In the brush palette or? I found the SmoothDirectional brush but no Directional… Sound really good that its possible anyway, was losing hope almost
Thanks again!

It’s in the Tool palette - one of the 2.5D tools - which you have to use in Projection Master because you are in 2.5D not 3D.

Great! found it! But cant get the hang how to use it with my own tool in the canvas already… Maybe I figure it out, its really a hard sw to get comfortable with… I get the 2.5d, but use the tool with the tool?!

But in Projection Master your model is fixed. See here for more information:
http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/sculpting/projection-master/

Projection master is pretty old technology now. It still has its uses but a lot of the time it is simpler to stay in 3D. You can apply alphas - even 3D alphas - in a more intuitive way.

The Directional Brush is in the 2.5D section of the Tool menu - not the sculpting brushes menu.
In projection master set the Directional Brush to a Drag Rectangle stroke with an alpha of your choice - you can rotate the painted alpha as you drag out or press r and rotate with a gizmo - pressing q when you are finished

If you mean rotate an alpha mask to use with other 2.5 painting brushes when in projection master you really have to use a stencil. To create a stencil from an alpha >Alpha menu choose or import an alpha ,Alpha Menu>Transfer>Make St (make stencil)
In the stencil menu you will see a stencil on button as well as an invert option. Press spacebar to bring up the coin operator to move rotate etc your alpha mask and paint through this.

There are ways to store a painted alpha as a texture which you can flip and reapply as an alpha mask before entering projection master mode but this does not give the flexibility of using the the stencil

Hope that helps some.

Hi Boozy
And thanks for info! I found the Dir brush but have not figured out how to use it with wanted result yet… I have tried to use stencil but I get so bad resolutions in the mesh even when I have a 6million mesh to sculpt on. Dont know why?!
Maybe I am going in the wrong way with this but I am really new to Zbrush, not to 3d cad though…
My goal is to be able to make low reliefs (see attached image)on an already “finished” base model. It is important that I can edit (rotate/move/scale) the individual items of reliefs and it still is on the surface off the model.
What is the best way to do this?
The image attached is just made with Standard brush, DragRect and an alphaScreendump05.JPG

Hi perolalars , for this kind of flexibilty of design I might be inclined to create such forms as an actual mesh then create insert mesh brushes from your created meshes.
You can set the zdepth intensity of the insert mesh brush to create a lower relief form as well as set the amount of penetration of the insert mesh by going to Brush Menu >Depth and set the imbed. To help with the insert mesh form fitting to the mesh you are drawing it on to you can >Brush Menu>Modifiers >Projection strength

Once you have placed/drawn out your insert meshes on a target mesh this way you can edit and move them later by using their polygroups to isolate them by masking etc and or split them to a new subtool layer should you wish.

NB:You can transfer an alpha to a mesh by going to alpha menu>‘To Mesh’ or using the ‘Make 3D’ button with the alpha selected in the alpha menu.

A suggestion - to lower your polygon count if using insert mesh brushes - try running decimation master on a the mesh before you convert it to a insert mesh brush (keeping a copy of your master for saftey before you proceed)

Finally should you wish to go with your original route (whether in Projection Master or using the standard brush with an alpha for relief as in your example) then storing a morph target before you project your alphas in projection master will allow you to paint out areas you feel you wish to adjust and reapply back in projection master by using the morph brush to paint back to a stored morph target state i.e before you applied your displacement projections. For this research working with morph target and using layers. NB: incase you were unaware you can also project with actual mesh geometry from within your Tool Menu selections as well as painted information and/or alpha depth.

Hope this helps some and/or gives further food for thought and experimentation.

Hi again
And thanks a lot!!
It really helps getting the know-how to go about this in a feasible way!
Going to experiment some with our suggestion!
Thanks again!

@Boozy help!
When insert or append subtools, trying to move rotate or scale it rips apart the subtool and I dont understand what´s wrong!?Screendump06.JPG

turn off symmetry by pressing “x”

Thanks Lukasso, but it still rips it apart…
Its like some polygons/points on the subtool is locked in space and rest is not…

The odds are that it’s a mask. Go to Tool > Masking and clear the mask.

@zber2 Thank you soooo much! That did the trick! Happy weekend to you and all that have help me so far!!!
