Projection Master Help!

Hi, my name is Mike, and I am new to Zbrush. I was wondering if there were any beginner tutorials on Projection Master. I dont really understand the whole concept of it. ( I dont know if this question has been answered somewhere else on these forums yet so sorry!)

Draw a 3D object on the canvas, enter Edit mode and click the Projection Master button. The panel that will appear has a ? button in the lower corner. That takes you to ZBrush’s built-in Projection Master tutorials.

Hey Man,

I’m a newb myself even tho I’ve been around this site for awhile. I thought maybe I could help you grasp the concept of projection Master as I understand it. This will almost certainly be an incomplete description, but bear with me.

Projection Master allows the Z brusher to apply color, material, and deformation onto the model on the canvas. When you switch over to projection master you can no longer rotate your object (until you pick it back up again, - Clarification, when you enter PM you are “dropping to canvas, when you exit PM and go back into 3d mode your are” picking it back up". Projection Master is usefull for Painting color and texture, relief ,localizing materials, and using stencils. You want to do all your “broad” modeling and medium level modeling in Edit mode outside of projection master and your fine detail (like veins, pores, etc) inside of PM. It is EXTREMELY important that before you enter PM that your model is at least 1 million polygons (you can see how many polygons your object is by floating your mouse over the tool to the upper left of tha canvas and reading the number of polygons. If you do not have a sufficient number of polygons the details you add will be “pixely” and your colors will be imprecise. Also before you enter PM you want to create a texture on your object, one that is a s big as your comp can handle(4096x4096) is what I would suggest. After you create a texture you want to create a UV texture: Tool>Texture>GUV tiles (first your model must be at the lowest subdivision level, to do this go to: Geometry> SDIV and slide the Sdiv all the way to the left) then return to the highest subdivision level. Hope this gets you started. Remember this is just a short incomplete description.
