Projecting details from one specific layer to another

Hi everyone I understand how to project all details from one subtool to another but is it possible to project a specific layer from one subtool to a specific layer on another sub tool? I have some muscle deformation sculpted onto a character (which is NOT on a layer) and then a loincloth sculpted on a single layer. Basically I want to take the muscle details and loin cloth and project them onto a duplicate OBJ BUT have them on their own layers so that I can have better control over them both. Currently only the loincloth is on its own proper layer. The problem I am having is that I cant turn the muscle detail off because it isnt on a layer and so I cant project the loin cloth across to its own layer without the muscling detail projecting at the same time. Is it possible to split them out and project them separately onto their own layers on a new OBJ?

If both have the same topology you can export one model as OBJ and import it in the other model in a recording layer. If you only want part of the new shape you can create a morph target from that layer, deactivate the layer, swap the morph targets and use the morph brush.

Hi Altea

Thanks for replying.
Im a little confused by the last part of that workflow…could you give a little more detail about how to swap morph targets?

Imagine you have a layer with a shape different than the layers below. Layers don’t allow you blend sections of the shapes with other layers but morph yes. Create a morph target when that layer is active (storeMT button). Now deactivate the layer, create a new layer in recording mode and swap the morph targets using the switch button. Now you can blend the content with the morph brush or even better masking and using the morph slide in the morph section. The morph target menu is in the tool section.

Thanks Altea

Cool I’ll give that a go

I appreciate you taking the time to lay it out for me.
