Hello everybody, I’m about to start college in a month or so and I haven’t really decided what I want to take just yet. There seems to be a general confusion with what certain classes are called that makes it difficult for me to plan it out.
I want to learn how to make things like 3D editing programs like Zbrush and game engines/game editors (and other similarly complicated types of software). What classes/degree would I have to take to learn how to do this?
You would think it would be obvious: I want programming. But most of the time, what is listed is ‘computer science’. Is this the same thing or do they call it something else?
None of the people at the various colleges I spoke to seemed to have a clue what the difference was. They told me it might be called ‘software engineering’ but when I looked it up, that didn’t seem like the same thing either.
Also is there a specific programming language that is more effective for making these sorts of programs? There was several different kinds you can specialize in, and I don’t want pick one that isn’t going to help much.
(On a related note, I was wondering if these same things would help in website design, or do I need separate classes for that?)
