Problem with unfreezing subdivision levels

Hey there guys!

I’m pretty new to Zbrush and have a following problem.

I accidentally froze the subdivision levels and didnt even noticed it. After noticing that (and after did some sculpting) i tried to unfreeze them and that’s what i got. Is it possible to somehow unfreeze the sub-d levels without any changes to the mesh or i have do everything from scratch? Thanks for help!

You can copy the subtool that way you will have two. 1 with the details which is frozen and the other you can unfreeze smooth out the mess and project back you details. That should work.

Hey Maydream,
Sometimes you can recover your work by going into the Subtool>Project subpalette and increase the Dist slider by a few tenths of a decimal point or more.
Then unpress the Freeze SubDivision Levels button and see if this helps retrieve more of your HiRes detail.
Someone pointed this out in the forum that there is a direct correlation between these functions but I can’t find it at the moment.
Hope it’s all you need…

I’m new to Zbrush and have just encountered the same problem with frozen subdivision levels. Will try the suggested solutions tonight. Thanks.

This thread is super old, but I thought I’d give my input anyway in case someone in the future is looking for a solution to this.

This happened to me before and this is what I did:

  1. unfreeze subdivision levels
  2. go to lowest subdivision level
  3. smooth out the difference
  4. rinse and repeat for each subdivision level in order

It takes a little bit of time, but that seemed to help for the most part. I did have to redo a little bit of detail, but not much.

Hope this helps someone. :x
