Problem with subdivion level.

Can someone please help me with a problem. After i converted a model from zsphere to “Make Polymesh 3D” and I try to increased the subdivision, but even if i clicked the Divide a few times the object still has the same resolution it doesn’t smooth it out. I’m using brush 4r8 p2.

This is odd and I’m not sure what’s happening. I suggest you try this:

  1. At the lowest subdivision level, export your model as an OBJ.
  2. Restart ZBrush and select a different project such as the DemoDog.
  3. Select the PolyMesh3D Star tool in the Tool palette and import the OBJ you saved at (1).

Then try dividing.

Thanks, I tried it but still doesn’t work.

That’s because the Adaptive Skin you made is Dynameshed. With your ZSphere tool selected, turn “DynaMesh Resolution” slider in Adaptive Skin subpalette down to 0 before you click “Make Adaptive Skin” or “Make Polymesh 3D” button.

It would be nice if that slider default setting was 0 to begin with. (ahem Pixologic)

Thank you very much, zber2. Sorry for another question. How can I set “Dynamesh Resolution” to default as 0?

No problem Siegs. I’m afraid you can’t set it to default to 0. As soon as you select a ZSphere, the resolution goes up again. Save config won’t work. A startup macro won’t work either. I have already tried. Like I said, as soon as you select a ZSphere, the resolution goes up. I don’t understand why they did it that way. It’s just plain stupid.

ohh I see, Thank you very much for your time zber2.

The DynaMesh setting will save with both a Project file (ZPR) and ZTool (ZTL), so if you save one of those and then load it whenever you want to work with ZSpheres it may save you some grief.

Or, you can use a Macro. Here is a Macro that will draw a ZSphere on the canvas, turn DynaMesh Resolution to 0 and enable Edit mode. Just put the text file into “ZBrush 4R8/ZStartup/Macros/Misc” folder. You will have a new button in “Macros > Misc” palette called “Load ZSphere” that you can move to a convenient place.
