Problem with polygroups after reconstruct subdiv

I apologize if this has been discussed before. I don’t exactly know how to explain this but the screen grabs should be self explanatory. I make polygroups using masks. I reconstruct subdivisions and when I go back to level 2, It looks the same as level one, as if it didn’t go with the subdivision. ( I think this happens even if I made the polygroups with an extra subdivision level there already. ) I can’t even remember whether I’ve encountered something like this. Has it always been like this or is there something I can do about it? I would like to “keep” the poly group looking like it does before reconstruct after I go to level 2.

Thanks in advance.

Uouhh you… i don’t know.
My guess is, that zbrush refresh the mesh, during the second reconstruction.
This, because zBrush has with the reconstruction processing not always the possibility and ability to reconstruct the deleted or freezed level perfrect clean/back.

And if you have bad luck, is reconstruct freezed levels more terrible than deleted levels. Depending how complex you has sculpt over the freezed levels -model, after a freeze.

oh, that’s unfortunate I guess. I’ll have to finish sculpting the lips and then reconstruct afterwards. No big deal. Thank you so much for the quick reply.

Polygroups will only be consistent across all subdivision levels if they are created at the lowest level. Creating at a higher level, or reconstructing lower subdivision levels, will change the polygroups when you move between levels.

Basically this.

Polygroups are based on polygon faces. 2 adjacent subdivision level 2 faces could be on separate subdivision level 1 faces. If you put them together as one polygroup in level 2 how does it know which group those level 1 faces belong to? It doesn’t so when you go back to level 1 it recalculates and then when going back to level 2 or higher it keeps the level 1 groupings.
