Problem with JPG files

Hey all,

I am getting an error message when trying to import JPG’s as an alpha, It reads “unable to read specified file” The JPG are coming from Photoshop CS. They will not load. If I try and use the same files saved as PSD file they come in fine. And this is what I have been doing. But now got to many large files on drive and bumming me out.

Is there a fix for this?? To many PSD files make my puter sad!

convert 'em to BMP. they’re normally pretty small. and ZBrush accepts them.

Ya but I want to keep all my images as jpgs if possible.

You do realize that JPG is a compressed image format. This means that by definition, JPG images have artifacts. These artifacts don’t usually create a problem with color images because they manage to blend in. But with an alpha, the artifacts can become really obvious.

In other words, it would never be recommended to use a JPG as an alpha. It’s always best if possible to use an uncompressed format such as PSD or BMP.

are you saving em as 24 or 32 bit jpgs? am curious.

I was not aware of this issue So I would be better off just using the PSD? or bmp. Cool thanks for the advise. For what I am doing I need clean alphas.

I think Im using 32 bit why? dose it make a difference?

I don’t know Bill but thought if yours were saved at a different compression I would try it with both on something I know had worked before and see if I had the same problem.

will try to play around later with it.
