Has anybody had trouble with the import of DXF files? It seems to be hit and miss…
It works then it doesn’t. Any input anybody?
Hey Stonecutter,
I have a 90%success rate with DXF and an 99% success rate with OBJs.
I’m not done trying to figure this out, but I truly believe it has everything to do with the program is came from as well as the size of the mesh.
But then again, I have about the same success rate between my other programs too. So, I don’t necessarily think it’s a problem persay.
I’ve also found that just building them directly in ZBrush gets me where I want to go alot faster.
For some reason (quality?) an imported mesh just doesn’t perform or look as good as an original build in Z. And the odd thing is, I have a 100% success rate in EXPORT to any of my other programs…
I haven’t opened up Anim9or, Blender, Poser, Bryce, Cararra, or Canoma for a while now…
This is my experience and opinion of course. And is worth about .02 on the open market.
Hi
Is the problem that you are encountering similar to the problem the was described in this thread?
If you encounter any other difficulties, please email me(if possible) a sample of such file (DXF or OBJ format).
(It could be a result of none-standard file format and ZBrush can most likely be updated to recognize such format.)

Thanks guys!
It was a problem importing from Elefont, and the problem, as they say, WAS between the monitor and the back of my chair. I just was closing Elefont before it had finished the triangulation… (Should have a smiley here for a ‘What a dummy!’
Thanks for the input, and as usual, it wasn’t ZBrush, but me. When I started using this great software, I thought it had bugs, but it hasn’t given me a problem all week except for this, which was my fault
I used Elefont for a while, but switched to
Xara3D
and
Amorphium (for the fontman)
BUT there is always more than one way to skin a cat… 8^))
hello zuzu
how is the weather in San Francisco?
i am not able to import ANY DXF files from Cinema 4d XL Version 6 into Zbrush.
OBJ works like a charm.
Importing into C4D gives me the headache of having to reverse a few stray normals,
imagine the horror of correcting 20,000 poly model of a face!!
Importing DXF from zbrush into C4D has not given me any problems…
this information is probably more valuable to you then me,
cheers
