PRIMITIVE ORC --- (renamed) WIP

Good day everyone! I began a few days ago by posting this “working” model. I thought I was finished with it but after having walked away from it for a few days I decided It needed re-vamping. The first series below shows the steps to the final image in Fig 3. Fig 4 is the revised model. I added additional deformation/texturing. The next stage will include additional fine texturing and skin colorization. I was inspired to do this by Pixolator’s awsome images in his gallery. The one that comes most to mind is the fishy/big headed alien thingy with the big 'ol tongue sticking out. Awesome detailing of skin there! As I write this I have many different avenues I would like to take with this project but it occured to me that I might try something different by throwing it on the table and asking all of you for your input: If you were me what would you do to the model? Don’t be shy…nothing will be considered too outrageous. I just feel that some outside input might get me to seeing it in a different light. It’s nice to step back once in a while and look at the work with a different perspective. So everyone have at it! Without further ado here they are:

I like the model as is but if you want an idea to play with:

It almost looks as though he could be an aqua dweller. Maybe some gills. Doesn’t have to be large gills. This may actually turn it into something entirely different though.

The skinning is nice and the nose bone is always a classic touch on a character like this.

I like the way this image is developing. Looking forward to seeing the updates which I hope are planned.

Looking great Mentat! For some reason, it strikes me that he could be selling apples?

Thanks Greg! I have been thinking kind of along the same lines. I will have to see where the brush takes me. You know Muvlo it does kind of look like the old Snow White Witch in a ZBrush kind of way. Here is Fig. 5 I added some color and texturing. Experimented with some eyes and teeth. Not sure if I will keep the eyes but I am definitely going to change the teeth! Next pic I should have more skin detailing and coloring and should be getting closer to my goal (don’t know what that is yet but let’s see what happens!

If anyone has any suggestions on changing this or any wild hairs about it please speak up! My mind is open to nudging!! I am going to bed now. Zee you all tomorrow!

one thing that i love about these images are the eyes… with beautiful texturing the eyes really stand out… great job…

I thought I would just throw this one out for the heck of it. I was messing around with the levels in Photoshop and tried using the Auto feature…this is what it changed it too. I kind of like these colors. What do you all think?

wow! this is great. it’s been really cool to watch the evolution of this image. it looks really awesome. The blueish coloring on the second frontal image is really neat. the texturing and modeling are fantastic. you’re moving along really fast…great image.

Youve have grasped the basics of this software in no time at all. Im very impressed with each stage of this head.

Try keeping it all in ZBrush. The RGB levels, brightness and contrast can all be adjuected in REENDER>ADJUSTMENTS then click in the ADJUST button.

Keep it up. BTW. The Pixolotor Fishy head was one of my first inspirations.

Glen

I like everyone of these pieces,
It’s obvious you’ve got Zbrush undercontrol.

Blue is my favorite, so I REALLY like the last guy.

BUT the middle with the horn through the nose is great.

Excellent series. :+1:

Thanks Kathy! I wouldn’t quite say I have it under control  I still have a great deal to learn and many more techniques to explore. I was thinking that I had been posting for two or three weeks now but I was looking back at my first post and it has only been a week since I began to really work in this program!! LOL! Must seem like forever because of all the SLEEP I’ve missed  And does my neck hurt!!! Thanks for the kind words Glen! On the subject of color correction I was wondering if you could share with us what settings you use- it is giving me problems in ZBrush. Or maybe a guidline as to what you look for when you make the adjustments? Thank you all for your gracious comments. I shall continue with this WIP until it is finished (knowing me that could be a long time as I have a tendency to over-perfectualize things) The next image will have more coloring and skin flaws added and possibly some tests with changing the facial features. I think I am going to experiment with some sort of head-gear or apparel of some sort. Hmmm…let’s see what happens. Until then happy Zeeing!

As promised here is the next phase of this work. I added more textures and detailing. This step of the process involved the use of the Texture Master ZScript, alpha bumping (see Southern’s post “Bumpin the Ork”), and the masking tools. I really enjoyed working on this…I love this program more and more every day (if that is EVEN possible  )

The teeth need to be worked on…I’m still not happy with them and I know they are not aligned correctly…work for the next phase. The next phase will also have some props included. I am thinking of constructing a primitive looking necklace with beads and claws and I may put some hair on him (I have been getting the feel of the fibre brush- Look out world- Lonzo is on the loose with whiskers!!). Until next time Zee you later!

By the way I don’t know if this has been documented anywhere (I haven’t seen at least but that’s not saying much  ) but I found that if you click the left mouse button and hold it down then click the right mouse button you can let go of both buttons and the brush will remain active. You can then just drag it around the screen and the click the left button again to “let go” of the brush. Just thought I’d share that with y’all.

Nice eyes, and texturing, Lonnie! :+1: :sunglasses: :+1:

excellent update… the eyes are my favorite part… how did you make them…

Actually Dr. J I pretty much do it the way Pix outlined it in one of his tutorials. It really is in the way you apply the color. I shade the cornea with many colors until I get the tone I am looking for then I lower my brush size and apply bits of highlight (look in the mirror- see those light colored striations in your eyes?) and then I apply bits of darker striations. Once that is complete I use texture master and apply small amounts of bright color using a small speckled alpha brush with RBG only- this gives it a sort of slight glitter look which is either magnified or subdued depending on what size you scale the eye too when you place it in the image. I also set the reflectivity on the material (which I use toy plastic) to -40. This allows the eye to reflect the environment map on the LOWER half of the eye. This adds depth and realism. Depending on what I am doing I may add veins or not. In most cases I shade the white parts of the eyes so it blends well with the primary colors I used in the overall image. After I place it in the image I shade the eye in with a dark color to simulate shadows- around the back curvature, across the top and along the bottom so it looks more like it is actually in an eye socket. I need to work more on eye lids- they should wrap around the eye and they provide more realism. Hope this answers your question. If you want more info feel free to e-mail me.

Your progressing very well, I like the build up of texture that has been used and the expression posed. Well done and thanks for sharing. Arran

Very Southernesque! High compliments, that. :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:
