Precision modeling

Anyone have any useful guides or tutorials on precision modeling in Zbrush?

What I am looking for it a way to add tools, clip slices, etc. at a uniform distance.

For example I would like to place a band that wraps around a sphere and have it perfectly centered and even on each side around the center line of the sphere. I have been able to get close by making a second sphere, using symmetry to clip the sides of it and then scale it to the original sphere. This way (at least for me) isn’t very accurate since I can’t get the 2nd sphere in the exact same position as the first.

Or I’d like to use a sphere to cut a hole in the exact center of one side of a box so that is forms a semi-circular depression on one face.

TIA
