Post your laptop specs

I can’t seem to find too much info on how much laptop I need. I think it would be helpfull to lots of us to see what others are using, and whether or not they are satisfied with it.

Also, I am considering buying a Sony 16 inch, 2.66 processor, 6 gb RAM, 320/720 Hard Drive, and an ATI 512 mb video card. Any input regarding experiences with similar set ups would be greatly appreciated. It seems the 2.4 chips are much cheeper, would I see any appreciable difference in performance?

Thanks:D

well seems kinda fine.
zbrush is more a memory thing i suppose.

the thing is tho… i had a laptop as primary workstation for the last two years
and they tend to destroy themselves pretty much when used extensivly and
for apps that want a lot of thinking by your computer.

about half a year after i bought the laptop the fan was broken.
got a new one from guarantee was broken again few months later.

thank god i signed a insurance at the shop paying 11€ every quarter of a year.

a month after the producers guarantee was gone (fujitsu siemens) the laptop decided to die entierly.
by having the insurance i at least got a new 600€ laptop which is what my old one costing 1400 € at purchase is worth by now.

id definitly advise you to get an insurance.

but if you dont really need the laptop go with a fullgrown desktop.

15-inch MacBook Pro
2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB Memory
320GB Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512M

I’m running ZBrush 3.1 in Windows XP32 SP3 via Boot Camp. It works very well, I’ve had zero issues so far. Windows 32-bit doesn’t address all of the RAM, but that’s OK with me for now.

Thanks Disco Stu, I was considering skimping on insurance but you make a good point.

Thanks Dustin, I would love a Macbook pro, but I was worried about how bootcamp would handle zbrush, I’ll have to put it back into contention.

i’ve got a lenovo n100

Intel 945 Express
3GB DDR2 5300
Screen: 15.4" WSXGA+ 1680x1050 Glossy
CPU: Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz T2400

not the best laptop in the world (especially the vid card, blech) but it makes for a nice on-the-go zbrush notebook. it can handle up to 4mil polygons without giving me any grief, and it’s smooth as silk for that. I also have a local XSI license running on it, and it’s pretty decent for that as well. I can’t load any of my larger reference scenes, but those are generally pretty dense… up into the 4mil poly range. I bought it used from a co-worker last year, and I’ve got to say that for the price i’m pretty pleased… I only paid $380 for it

i use a HP Pavilion dv9765eg with Intel Duo Core 7500 (2,2 Ghz) and 3GB Ram with 17" Screen, Nvidia 8600M 512MB+ Wacom Intuos4 Small ,i have change before from Intuos3 A4 to A6 and now happy with my Intuos4 Small.
