Possible to make dynamics cloth in high-res ? ($ offer)

Hello

I already asked for help in another post, but I couldn’t clearly understand how to do it.
That’s why I decided to offer some bucks $ to the person who wants to help me, showing me step by step how to get the sharp result.

I have to make a vacuum effect for this client (the file will be 3d printed to produce a big poster, example below). But impossible to have a sharp logo result , I always have this low definition effect, and when I divide it it makes it even less sharp by rounding it. In short, I’m stuck.

So if you have the trick to do it, please don’t hesitate to dm/email me

Hello @MrCedric ,

The Dynamics feature simply does not work with high resolution meshes due to performance constraints. You won’t be able to work at a resolution high enough to both stamp in your detail cleanly AND work with Dynamics at the same time.

The answer would seem to be to to stamp in your text detail at a high level of subdivision with a multi-resolution mesh, then drop to a much lower level of subdivision to create your cloth effects. The changes you make at a lower level of subdivision will update the higher levels of subdivision while keeping the crisp detail intact.

However, if you zoom in far enough on any mesh that has had detail displaced this way , eventually you will see some stepping on the edges no matter the resolution. If this is done at high enough resolution typically a viewer will not be able to see it. If you want to eliminate this entirely, then the text would need to be extruded from a polygroup or geometry that has a clean outline in the shape of that text.

Hello Spyndel

Thank you for your reply
(I’m a little nervous with this job because the last one I did for them the outline wasn’t sharp, so they weren’t totally satisfied. It will be on huge special poster, no luck for me the contours will be seen with the naked eye).

So I tried to follow your trick that you described on the second paragraph, but I’m not sure to really understand what you mean.

  • I put the logo at 1 Mil
  • generated the cloth dynamics (the subtool only allows me 300,000)
  • then divide it several times to 1 Mil…

The result is not good, I must have made a mistake somewhere, but where?

No one at maxon can show a step by step, really? (sorry maybe I’m not used to it, for Blender, free software, people always help, on free time, people stuck on a problem)

Yes you are right, if I want a professional tutorial you have to pay, I know that, that’s why there is “$ offer” in the title of my post. (I also created a specific offer in the community space).

In short, I had to insist a little but in the end Maxon finally helped me.

About the Dynamic feature it really is a « magic button », its only problem is its resolution limitation. (By the way, there are plenty of other “magic button/brush” in Zbrush. This is also what makes it a really varied and unique piece of software).

Finally, as I had no help for a week, I had to manage on my own. And I found a pretty simple solution.

As for your approach, it’s interesting, and it’s always a good thing to discover how the “experts” do it, we always learn something, or at least we revise a little.

Again thanks to you
