Possible to increase ZB performance with 2nd disk?

Hello fellow ZBrushers,

does anybody know if it makes sense (or even if it is possible) to install ZBrush on a second physical hard drive, meaning another than the one the system runs on, in order to improve performance?

Thanks in advance for any useful replies…

ZBrush uses its own virtual memory file, located within the ZBrush directory itself. So it completely ignores the Windows virtual memory.

You should put ZBrush on the fastest drive you have in your machine.

Now for overall operating system performance you’re usually best off putting the Windows swap file on a different drive from the OS. This will improve Windows’ performance a bit and it will also free up disk space on your system drive. That can indirectly benefit ZBrush even though it won’t directly improve performance.

Hello aurick,
thanks for the reply.
I am not sure if I understood this correctly.
ZBrush on the fastest drive is comprehensible (for example an SSD drive).
But is it best to place the os and ZBrush together on one drive and only the windows swap file on a second drive? Or did you mean to have the os on one drive and ZBrush on a second drive?

Thanks

Any additional information?

What I meant is that Windows performs best with the OS on one drive and its swap file on another. That may benefit ZBrush indirectly.

ZBrush itself should always be on the fastest drive available, regardless.

Thanks aurick!
