possible to extract (from mask) a mesh w/ 0 thickness?

Hey guys,
I am curious if it is possible to extract from a mask a mesh with 0 thickness. When I set the dial to 0, it appears that the extract tool still adds a thickness to the mesh. I know by definition extraction requires thickness, but for my purposes it would be better to use a mesh that is 2-dimensional.

(My application is this: I am designing hair, and need to create a “base” for the strands. The mesh is essentially a cap around the head, as shown in the image below.)

If you set tool>subtool>extract>thick>0 then it will be without thickness. You can see how one side disappear unless you have double face on.

I wonder, once you do the hair, how you will disguise the seam with the face skin?

Great, thanks. I wasn’t sure if it really had 0 thickness. Thanks for clarifying that.

In regards to your question, common practice seems to be to use an oppacity map to transition from the edge to the hair. The only purpose of the cap is to help fill in the area near the scalp with “hair,” thus allowing a lower polycount on the fibermesh.
