Posing a Miniature Suggestions

Hey,
So somewhat new to Zbrush. My whole goal was to design miniatures for my tabletop gaming hobby. Currently I’m using Daz3D for posing the character and provding a good starting point in Zbrush. My next project is going to be a group of werewolves and i plan on doing several versions of them for my game. should i do a base free standing un-posed model and detail it out and add ZSpheres (never done them yet) or just pre-pose a human like i want them in Daz and then do all the detailing from start to finish in Zbrush for each version. And by all the detail i mean things like the face, fur, claws etc. Which path will lead to the least amount of re-work and provide continuity across all models?

or if there is another option please advise

Thanks.

Hello @Gyps1Danger

Yes!

We call this a T-pose. You needn’t do the actual posing of the mesh in ZBrush if you have a preferred option, but creating characters you will eventually want in multiple poses in a neutral, symmetrical position is crucial to being able to do a whole lot of other things–like sculpt with symmetry, for instance. Your work will be much more difficult without this.

@Spyndel thanks for the reply. One more quick question. How much detail should i do before T-Pose or Zpheres. should i do things like clothing and fur prior to posing. I’m sure it depends on several things unique to each model but if there are some basic tips i would appreciate them.

thanks.

Generally speaking, symmetrical detail and detail that will not change depending on the pose should be complete before posing. Otherwise you would need to do it over again every time you change the pose. This applies to any clothing detail that all the poses will share. There may be exceptions in special cases.

Touch up work is usually required after posing. Additionally you may wish to refine the detail on the mesh that might change depending on the pose–clothing and skin wrinkle patterns, changes in musculature, etc.
