When I import a Poser model (or obj of any kind) then import the associated texture, it doesn’t apply itself to the model automatically. Is it something wrong with zbrush or am I not doing something right?
In ZBrush 3.5 (or MacOSX 3.2) you need to apply textures using the Tool>Texture Map submenu. Click on the thumbnail and select the texture from the pop-up. This new method means that textures can be applied on a per subtool basis.
That worked, thanks. How would you suggest getting at the texture files inside the material (mtl) file for the model I’ve imported inside of zbrush? (Since they’re not already separated out to be loaded in as in other cases).
As far as I know the mtl file simply has a reference to the texture map file, not the texture map itself. Certainly ZBrush doesn’t make use of the mtl file on import, though it will create one on export.
Right on. I have the original textures. But why when I bring in the texture does it not wrap the mesh correctly? Even after flipping horizontally, vertically or rotating I don’t get a proper fit.
What am I not doing correctly?
Can you show an image? That would perhaps help with finding what’s wrong.
You should only need to flip vertically. If the mesh has UVs the texture should then map correctly.
Here you go.

Here’s the original.
I got it to work. But the eye lash textures are separate from the head.
Do you mean that the eyelashes have a separate texture? If so, you would need to make the eyelashes a separate subtool as you can only apply one texture per tool/subtool in ZBrush.
Yeah, the eyebrows are separate. Thanks.
But now that I have the texture on the model how do I paint (make changes to the original texture) while its on the model? Do I need to do anything special?
Did you also manage to apply the texture correctly to the back of his head (where the tongue etc.) were in your example? I have the problem, that the textures apply perfectly to the fact, but go wrong on the ears (strange) and the back of the head (which is a different MAT zone).
Regarding your question:
You have to convert the texture to color (Texture Tool: Tex>Col) then paint away as you like, when you are done, press “New From Polypaint”. Then as usual Flip V and export.
