Hello fellow Zheads,
Here is my latest project, a dwarf character.
I plan on bringing this guy into Poser4 and making a fully poseable figure with props.
I modeled him using Zspheres with adaptive skin.
Total Polygons= 41,864
I will next begin to model his props.
(Beard, armor, helm, weapon etc…)
See you soon, feel free to ask questions and I’ll do my best to answer them. I will be posting all of the progress and steps in this thread.
Later,
Michael
Have you thought about how you are going to be able to pose himone you are done modeling? Are you going to rig him in another software package?
very kewl reference image for sure Michael. I have right clicked this one for future use. How will you be able to make the final model poseable? I am a bit wet behind the ears on that subject. Keep us posted on this guys progress.
Excellent work PusGhetty! I too will be looking forward to your experimentations.
Thanks for the kind words.
MonkeyFarm And Ron Harris: I am going to name his groups with a standard figure hierarchy and then insert joint parameters and Kinematic chains in Poser4 in order to make him poseable. Check out this thread I did a while back… it will shed more light on the subject.
Making Poser characters
Well,
Here is an update… these are the final models for the beard and moustache. The roman armor and helm are both old models I did in Rhino a few years ago… I just threw them on to test the water.
I will be modeling all new armor and a new helm and weapon for this character soon.
Thanks for looking!
Michael
Superb work and walkthrough. I’m always impressed by your technical know-how. Your other Poser thread was also fascinating and one that I never saw the first time.
Do post a render when he’s finished in Poser.
Thanks Boozy for your compliments! I will definately post pictures of the finished work as well as some more WIP shots. I still have a lot of work to do!
Next, I need to take the mesh into Truespace5 so that I can name the groups and refine the polygon structure on a per vertex and/or polygon basis… then I’ll bring it back into Zbrush for texturing. finally it will be ready for Poser. That’s when the real work begins… Hahhahahah! No, really!
I am taking my time with this one as I intend to sell it online to those Poser maniacs who collect every figure! ;~)
LOL
Take care,
Michael
looking fantastico so far! right on: keep us updated!

Love that dwarf!
Thanks,
Here is an update,
The top image shows my work on the texture map and skin materials. The bottom images show my Poser4 progress.
A. This shows the seams between the groups of polygons. I used UVMapper to group the model into standard Poser character hierarchy names.
B. This shows the Polygon Structure within Poser4.
C. This shows the rendered/textured version of the model within Poser4.
Now I must implement the figures hierarchy and begin doing the Joint Parameters, Inverse Kinematic Chains and Sphereical Falloff Zones. Then he will be fully poseable.
I have decided to make the props after getting this guy poseable.
Thanks for looking!
Michael
This is going to be so cool. Great work.
this is just the thing im trying to do… thanks for the tut my friend.
Thanks for the comments,
Here is the next update,
He is now fully poseable… now on to making some clothing and facial morphs, oh and I still have to add his inverse kinematic chains!
See ya soon,
Michael
well done
how long did it took you to make all the steps above?
Thanks Sarum,
All together I have about 30 hours invested in this character so far… probably a hundred more to go!
;~)
Wonderful work. You souldn’t have any problem selling your dwarf. Especially with all of the LOTR people around, I know several of them that’d buy it in a heart beat.
My hats off to you man!
Truly amazing stuff!
WoW!
It’s coming along a treat. And I love that fat nose. I could play with it for hours.
Not only are you smart but you have the patience of a Saint.
Thank you all for the great comments and compliments… Mucho appreciated!
Here is my next update… I have been modeling some clothes in both Rhino and Zbrush. Also, I have been doing some facial morphs. Next thing I will be modeling some sandals. Then I will texture everything and then make them into conforming figures. By making conforming figures out of the armor and clothes I will be able to pose him with his clothes on! No more naked dwarfs! Hahahahah!! LOL
Take care and please feel free to ask questions,
Michael
Hi Push
How many times this dwarf can hold his arm’s length without cramp ?
